Nassau County Dog Licensing and Leash Laws

Responsible pet ownership means more that bringing your pet in for regular Hicksville pet wellness exams and providing a loving home: It also means knowing the laws that you must obey. New York State and the Long Island townships require that every dog 6 months old or older that is owned or harbored for more than 30 days must be registered with a license. Dog owners can apply for NY dog licenses at their local town clerk’s office. Owners must have proof of their NY pet’s rabies vaccination, as well as the location that their pet was spayed or neutered.

Each town in Nassau County has their own dog leash laws. While all require that dogs be leashed at all times and under the owners’ control when out in public, some have additional specifications, such as allowable leash length and acceptable public behavior.
